Resist It! with Adrienne Eliades, September 12th & 13th, 10am - 3pm
Join us for a weekend of creative exploration and take your clay work to the next level with stencil resist techniques! Perfect for clay enthusiasts of all skill levels, we will learn how to create intricate designs and patterns using resist materials and methods to achieve stunning surface decorations on both wet clay and bisqueware. We’ll focus on developing your individual aesthetic by encouraging the use of personal inspiration and imagery in your work. By the end of the hands-on session, students can expect to leave with many new proficiencies, glaze-fired test tiles and materials to continue experimenting in your studio practice.
Schedule:
Day 1:
1. Introductions and ice breakers
2. Tile Demo/Students role slabs
3. Underglaze Discussion – how to break the rules
4. Demonstration – tyvek resist, found materials
5. Hands on time to practice techniques on tiles
6. Lunch
7. Demonstration - paper resist for another layer
8. Hands on
9. Students work on decorating tiles/instructor helps individuals
Day 2:
1. Personal Imagery Discussion/Exercise
2. Demonstration – color mixing with underglaze
3. Hands on time to mix custom colors
4. Lunch
5. Demonstration on vinyl resist with underglaze/glaze
6. Student decorate bisque pieces/instructor helps individuals
*Students should be prepared to take home leather hard work or pick up bisque/glaze fired work at a later date. Students should also bring bisque titles/pieces for vinyl resist. We will work at cone 6.

Student Materials List (Suggested Materials):
1-3 bisque tiles/pieces made from cone 6 clay of choice
Xacto knife with *#11 blades
5-8 samples of inspiring patterns (nature, design, fabric, etc.)
15+ samples of inspiring photos, drawings, literature, music, etc.
*Pencils, *pens, *sharpies (ultra fine and fine tip)
Mudtools: *red and *yellow ribs
1” – 1.5” Hake Slip brush (2-3)
Various soft bristle brushes
Tools to create surface texture on clay (optional)
Sketchbook
Apron, 2 hand towels, sponge
