Join us for an immersive, hands-on Ceramic Lamp Workshop and learn how to throw, design, and assemble your own custom functional art.

In this multi-session intensive, you will turn raw clay into a beautiful, working light fixture using the potter's wheel. Guided by instructor Nathan Carmona, you will learn the unique spatial and structural considerations required to wheel-throw a hollow lamp base, including centering larger amounts of clay, pulling uniform walls, and creating precise openings for wiring and hardware.
Once your base is thrown and trimmed, you will explore surface decoration techniques to personalize your piece, from carving and altering to choosing the perfect glazes. Finally, we will guide you through the wiring process, teaching you how to safely install the socket, cord, and hardware so your lamp is completely ready to plug in and illuminate your home.
What you will learn:
- Wheel-throwing techniques specifically tailored for hollow structural forms and lamp bases.
- Trimming, altering, and creating clean channels for electrical components.
- Surface design, texturing, and glazing strategies for functional ceramic art.
- The basics of lamp assembly, wiring, and hardware selection.
Please note: This workshop is ideal for intermediate throwers who are comfortable centering and opening clay independently and are ready to take their skills to the next level. Bring your creativity, and leave with a stunning, self-made ceramic lamp that lights up your space. Plan on bringing a bag of clay as clay is not provided for this workshop, if you need to buy clay it is available for purchase through the website.
